Welcome to the Northampton High School Drama Club.

NHSDC was started in 1993 by a group of interested students and Andrea Zucker. Over the years it grew into a student driven entity, such that when Andrea left one of the parents took over as "advisor." Ellen Augarten's daughter, Libby, had been in Drama Club since its second year and her son, Noah, joined in the spring of '98. When it became known that Andrea was not returning to the Drama Club for the '98-'99 school year, NHS began searching for a new drama coach. The search turned up no results, and Ellen agreed to take the position of advisor, though it was known that her theater skills were limited.

The past year has meant a lot for Drama Club. We participated for the first time in the Shakespeare and Company Fall Festival of Shakespeare, a festival hosted by Berkshire Community College. NHS performed Measure for Measure as directed by Jon Croy. We moved on from this intense piece to a production of student written and directed plays for Northampton's First Night Celebrations! In the spring we performed a "kids show" for the first time. The Lost Girls was guest-directed by Sarah Trabucchi and performed at elementary schools around Northampton. We went on to the Yankee Thespian Festival where a small group performed Women and Wallace by Jonathan Marc Sherman. Following this the Drama Club took part in an NHS ArtsFest, where we performed several improv pieces. At the initiative of several students in the Club we hosted the First Annual Pioneer Valley One-Acts Fest, in which NHSDC performed Finger Food by (name) and Variations on the Death of Trotsky by (name). We finished up the year only two days later performing Wallace, Finger Food, and Trotsky for the community.
